Sometimes decision making seems paralyzing, even when we are eager to let go and know it’s necessary for our mental health, relationships, or new home. It may be hard to admit you own a lot of items you no longer need (or even like!). Or you may feel guilty letting go of that special childhood chair that your now adult son loved as a toddler, or the sweater that’s not your style but it was a gift from your favorite aunt. It is OK to let things go that are no longer serving you.

Here are some questions to ask yourself as you are making decisions about what to keep and what to let go. We are happy to help talk you through this process too!

    1.   Does this item make me happy?
    2.   Does it fit? Is it functional?
    3.   Have I used this in the last year?
    4.   Would I buy it again?

Once you’ve sorted your items into categories, think about whether you actually use each item, if it brings you joy, or if you are only keeping it out of guilt, obligation, or fear of wasting money. It’s totally okay to let go of things that don’t serve a purpose or fit into your life anymore. Letting go can make your space more organized and peaceful, so don’t just keep things in your house because it’s too hard to make the decisions. You deserve a space that makes you happy and truly reflects who you are now, without the extra clutter!

Work hard and be kind, clutter managers!
