Ready to transform meal planning?
An organized pantry does more than just tidy up your kitchen—it can completely change the way you approach meals!
Use what you have. One of the biggest benefits of an organized pantry is that it helps you save money and waste less food. When everything is neatly arranged, you can take a quick inventory of what you have and build meal ideas around those items. A simple rotation system, where you use older items first, also helps ensure nothing gets forgotten at the back of the shelves.
Buy less. An organized pantry makes it easier to avoid impulse buys at the store. You’ll know exactly what’s on hand, reducing the chances of over-purchasing.
Plan quickly. Meal planning is quicker when you can see all your options clearly, giving you more time to spend with those you love.
Follow these steps to organize your pantry:
- Remove expireds. As you’re removing everything from the pantry, check expiration dates. Dispose of expired items to keep your pantry fresh and functional.
- Gather donations. Gather items that aren’t expired, but that you won’t use. Food pantries are serving so many in our communities – donate what you can.
- Group like items. For what you’re keeping, group similar items together, like canned goods, grains, breakfast items, snacks, condiments and spices.
- Reorganize into zones. Zones provide a roadmap so you’ll know exactly where to look when you need something specific.
- Utilize supplies. Clear containers are a real game-changer. They let you quickly see what’s inside and help you monitor your stock, so you’re never caught off guard by running out of essential ingredients. And, labeling shelves and containers ensures everything stays in its proper place.
