Sometimes decision making seems paralyzing, even when we are eager to let go and know it’s necessary for our mental health, relationships, or new home. It may be hard to admit you own a lot of items you no longer need (or even like!). Or you may feel guilty letting go of things that have been in your family for a long time or were a gift from someone special.

Here are some questions to ask yourself as you are making decisions. Be honest!

  • Does this item make me happy?

  • Does it fit? Is it functional?

  • Have I used this in the last year?

  • Would I buy it again?

Once you’ve sorted your items into categories, think about whether you actually use each item, if it brings you joy, or if you are only keeping it out of guilt, obligation, or fear of wasting money. It’s totally okay to let go of things that don’t serve a purpose or fit into your life anymore. Letting go can make your space more organized and peaceful, so don’t just keep things in your house because it’s too hard to make the decisions. You deserve a space that makes you happy and truly reflects who you are now, without the extra clutter!

Work hard and be kind!

Love,

Your friends at Cut the Clutter RVA
